Which of your channels actually makes you money?

Most businesses run three or more paybills, tills and bank accounts. Here is how to see revenue, expenditure and net per channel, in one view.

Which of your channels actually makes you money?

Ask the owner of a growing business how the shop till did last month compared with the online paybill, and you will usually get a pause. The money is all there. It is just spread across statements that were never designed to be read together.

The three-statement problem

A typical setup looks like this:

  • a paybill for fees or online orders,
  • a till at the counter,
  • a bank account for larger customer transfers,
  • another bank account the suppliers and rent are paid from.

Each has its own statement, its own format and its own login. So a simple question, where is our money coming from, and where is it going?, turns into an afternoon of downloading, copying and adding up. Most months nobody has that afternoon, so the question goes unanswered.

In and out, side by side

FinoQ Channel Analytics puts every connected channel in one view, and sorts them by direction:

  • Inbound channels are where you collect. Their totals read as revenue.
  • Outbound channels are where you pay from or pay to. Their totals read as expenditure.
  • Net is revenue minus expenditure, worked out for you per channel and across the business.

Pick today, this week, this month, this year or all time. Each channel shows its total, its number of transactions and its share of the whole, with a bar so the big ones stand out.

What owners notice first

When businesses see this view for the first time, three things tend to come up:

  1. One channel carries most of the revenue. Often it is not the one they assumed.
  2. One outbound channel is quietly large. A supplier account or a recurring bill that grows month on month.
  3. A channel is dead. A till that was set up for a branch and no longer collects anything.

None of that needs an accountant. It needs the numbers in one place.

Connect as many as you run

There is no limit on how many banks, paybills and tills you connect. Add a new branch till today and it shows up in the view tomorrow. Close one and it drops off.

Your accounts stay yours. Customers keep paying the till number they know, and your bank relationships do not change. FinoQ connects to them; it does not replace them.

Also on WhatsApp

The same numbers are available in WhatsApp. Ask for “this month” and you get revenue, outgoing and net, with each channel listed underneath.

Start with what you have

Connect the channels you already run and look at last month. Most businesses learn something in the first five minutes.
